Tattoo: The Books of Glory

a webserial about people who are not like us

...this is a horror webnovel, in case you hadn't figured that out.

So... it was a given that this was coming. There won't be copious amounts of swear words to carry the story (I've got a thing for big words, not the four letter kind), but this being a horror webnovel... there's going to be some language and scenes which are not for the faint of heart. Most of my characters will hopefully not have potty mouths, but they dictate the story to me sometimes, not the other way around. I'm not going to say there will be absolutely no sexual content either, however I'm not the kind of writer who just throws it in there to keep people's interest.

So to reiterate, this is a horror story. It will have violence. There may be strong language. There may be some (non-gratuitous) sexual content.

I would advise anyone under the age of... let's say 13, to get your parents' permission before reading.

    You have been warned.

About Me

I write. It’s what I do. Like Glory in my Tattoo webnovel, I have a fascination for arcane knowledge. I’ve studied mythology, folklore, and ancient history extensively. My home library is… taking over like a fungus. For my non-fiction writings check here.

Tattoo started as a webcomic, but unfortunately I don’t have a high opinion of my artistic ability. I’m not really that bad, but I’m not really that good either. So the webcomic died, only to be reborn here. You can still see the webcomic here, but unless you want to read ahead, I wouldn’t check it out just yet. It’s the first two chapters and the start of a third. As this webnovel progresses, it may diverge sharply from the original, but I’d still wait until after the third chapter’s begun before looking at the webcomic. More climactic that way.

I would not object to any art inspired by my writings. In fact, I’d be flattered as all get out. So gimme whatcha got.

  1. I am a great fan of Tattoo, but there are so many chapters now it is troublesome to scroll down to what I want to reread. Why don’t you put a table of contents, with links to each major chapter, on the top of the page?

  2. Putting them on the left-hand side makes them hard to find. It took me a while to find them, in fact. What I was thinking of was, at the top of the page, putting anchor links to each book and then links to the historical documents there as well.

  3. I was thinking of something else, sorry. Say, does this suggestion count towards Robert’s Notebook? Come to think of it, the Bonus Material should also be in the Table of Contents.

    • Actually, I did count the suggestion towards the bonus points. Getting very close now. 😉

All the links to the books and bonus material are still on the main table of contents page (and also on the left) just as they were before, but I gave the individual entries their own contents page for each book so that the page is cleaner. I only moved the current “chapter” up to the top. If you scroll down and click on any of the book titles, it takes you to that book’s title page and contents. Also the Bonus material is still listed on the front page after the books, as it was before, but it also has it’s own title page and includes the historical documents.

I’m not sure where else you meant to but the links unless you meant all the way up at the top in the bar under the serial title? I did initially have them there when I changed things around, but it looked sloppy to me. I can try to put it back if you like, and you can tell me what you think.

    • OK, I put the links in the bar between the title and the contents, and finagled it to be a little less messy then when I first tried it. Let me know if that’s what you meant.

  4. Now it looks perfect.

This is kinda weird. A few years back I had all 3 of the runes displayed in tattoo book 3, page 2 – the fear rune Hraethigaldur, Odin’s Illusory or Transformation rune, and the fear stave Ottastafur – tattood on my left shoulder, center back, and right shoulder respectively. At the time I was a soldier, and I have old Nordic blood in me, so it felt sort of appropriate. Since then I’ve grown far more peaceful and have plans to extend the ink to include runes of peace, calmness, and life.

I sort of stumbled here by accident and just thought it was a fascinating coincidence and figured I’d share it. Your writing skills are fantastic as well, seeing my tattoos in your work Tattoo got me to reading it a bit, and now I’m entirely caught up in it and enjoying it very much.
